Roden stood looking out across the many stores and items in them. He sighed as demons from far and wide sought the handy crafts-work of his kind. But, this still didn't sit well with him. Although his people worked and thrived, something, and he would find out what, was killing them off. If he didn't find out soon his whole race could be swallowed up by whatever thing was causing this disaster. He looked up at the sky today, it was cloudy, but it didn't look like rain. It looked as though the sky itself of in sorrow, was in pain. As if the sky knew the answers he sought, but couldn't tell him. Roden sighed again. "How troublesome." And he walked into the market to see what he could buy. "Roden!" Called one friend of his, "Come this way! I've got something for you." "Sure thing," He sighed inwardly. I wonder what she wants this time. "So what is it?" "Here look." She held out a long rifle. Its sleek design and careful engravings belied its strength, Roden could tell. This was a weapon of the utmost craftsmanship. "What do you think?" She smiled at him, as if this weapon was something like a toy to be admired. "Well, it looks like one heck of a weapon. But I can't afford it, I barely have enough for food." Roden sighed again. He turned to leave. "Roden," She grabbed his shoulder "Don't go yet. I want you to have it." "But I told you," He began but was cut off. "I know what you said, but I want you to have it. I know what you're doing, why you left your home. You can't do things like that on your own." She looked at him sincerely, trying to win him over. "Oh man, I," He looked at the gun, then back at her. "I'll take it, but only on one condition." "Name it!" She smiled. "You let me earn it, like, make me do chores are errands or something. Got it?" He raised and eyebrow to her. "And nothing simple, that thing's expensive." "Alright alright," She gave him the gun and then pulled out a list. "I need some raw metal from the mines, some more wood for carvings, and I could use some food from one of the marts around here. I get hungry you know!" She laughed and then handed Roden the list. "And don't come back until you're done, or until you have the food, and a drink maybe?" She smirked at him. "Haha, alrighty then I'm off. Be back in a bit." Roden holstered the gun on his back, taking a moment to admire it. "I'll call you, Commitment, so I'll always be reminded of mine." He nodded, the name fit well. He then turned and walked off into the streets to gather everything on the list. He eyed it again, as its contents were quite a bit more then mentioned. "This is going to be so fun...." he sighed. OOC: So what, that's three karma? And by the way, that's over 400 words, I think that's a suitable opening thread.

./OOC;` Ok, I awarded you three karma... and the other two karma you got from joining... This is your best thread methinks... So I'll put you up for consideration of the second thread. And I'm going to join.
"Kinoko?" Matthew's soft voice floated up to her for the first time since they had gotten off the bus.
"Hn?" Kinoko was lost in thought, remember the last time she had come to the deer village. It was always quiet - no mistake, the deer were silent workers - but now, with the lack of children playing in the streets, everything had an eerie touch to it that made her want to shiver.
"Are you sure I'm ready for a weapon of my own?" he asked almost inaudibly, but her ears caught the words anyways.
"Of course I'm sure, Matt. I was younger than you when I got my first weapon."
"But that's you..." Matthew mumbled, still unappeased.
Kinoko stopped, pulling him underneath the eaves of a nearby house, "Matt. You're a lot better than you give yourself credit for. Granted, you still have a lot to learn, but you're good. Both Vincent and I agree that you should have a weapon of your own to get used to, to learn to rely on," she paused, laughing as she considered, "Besides, Kharl almost wouldn't let me come here to pick a weapon for you, even though he knows most of the weapons in his keeping are bought from here."
Matt considered it silently for a while, then looked up, "So do you know the name of the artisan we're going to see?"
Kinoko shook her head, bringing them both back out into the deserted streets, "A contact of mine called her Rosalyn, but if she's not in, we could always go somewhere- Oh! I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed as she walked right into someone. So much for deserted streets, "I'm sorry," she repeated, stepping back, "I wasn't looking where I was going!" she looked up to smile apologetically at the deer and her eye caught on an elaborate gun slung over his shoulder. There was no mistaking the craftsmanship. It was gorgeous. [glow=silver,2,300]...walking this road without you... remaking forgotten promises... to meet you at road's end... OOC: Yay! A reply! Thanks Kinoko!
Roden jostled the weapon on his back as someone bumped into him. She apologized on the spot, he wasn't used to such prompt kindness.
"Eh, its no problem really." He smiled. He took the chance to spy the young deer next to her. A child! I don't believe my eyes, I haven't seen one since my childhood! "And who is this young friend with you?" He knelt down next to the young boy. "What's your name little man?" He smiled as kindly as he could. He didn't want to make a bad impression on the only kid of his kind he'd seen since he was little. "My name is Roden."

./OOC;` You should know by now that I post whenever and wherever, regardless. XD I love posting in RPs and we certainly need more. XD
Kinoko gave an inward sigh of relief at the stranger's acquiescence. Normally, other expensive gun-toting people wouldn't be so willing to forgive. And with Matt beside her, she wanted him out of range of any gun, regardless of size.
She gave the deer a sharp look as he bent down to Matthew, her senses on the alert. He seemed friendly enough... "He's my... friend's son," she replied, not feeling in the mood to answer all the inevitable questions that came when she told them that she, at her tender age, had adopted a son. She almost snorted. And in Requiem, that's the last thing that could happen, isn't it? Idiots.
Matthew knew the reason for Kinoko's tenseness and also knew the reason why. After all, the last time someone had tried to ask for his name had ended up almost slitting his throat, " 'm Matt..." he mumbled, looking down shyly at the ground, "P-pleased to meetchu Uncle Roden." [glow=silver,2,300]...walking this road without you... remaking forgotten promises... to meet you at road's end... OOC: I'm just gonna call this place the Arcane for short. >>
Alice wandered the streets, knowing she could find some excellently decent gun craftsman in the Arcane. Looking around she couldn't help but let her eyes have a feast on all the more than high quality crafts, weaponry, and other things that she couldn't think of a name for. She let her legs move her over to a table with lovely wooden flutes with carvings of all kinds. Some had faeries on them, other had flowers and leaves. One even had stars on it, it was her favorite out of them by far, although the faerie one was a very close second.
Her wavy, ebony hair flowed down to her shoulder blades. She wasn't on a job, so she might as well dress casually today. Black ankle high-heeled boots and black thigh-high stockings covered her legs. a black, flowy mini skirt, black tank-top with a short sleeve-less black vest over it covered the rest of her. That's alot of black. She wore just a thick silver chain around her neck, almost as big as the kind you'd see on a padlock. Yellow eyes were the only other color on her besides her creamy skin.
Looking around she saw that she wasn't the only non-Deer here. A fox with a young Deer was standing a few yards off. If you can hear the name of the one you love from far-off, does that mean you can smell the scent of the one you hate? Apparently so, becasue she could just barely catch Serena's scent waving around Kinoko and Matt.
She walked closer to them, keeping an eye on them, being discreet. When she could she did manage to get in a few seconds of a glare or two though. That damn Wolf, even when she's not around she manages to anger me. One of these days I realy would just like to punch her in the face. Believe me, the feelings quite mutual.

Roden looked back spotting the new comer. More people, maybe, maybe he'll want them.
"Well nice to meet you Matt. And nice to meet you to miss." He turned to the cat demon that came up to them. "It a pleasure to become acquainted to so many new people." He bowed. "If you don't mind, I'm sort of out of work and I recently got assigned to pay for this gun here." He motioned to Commitment. "So, if you wouldn't mind, I can show you around the market and you can help me with some of my chores. What do you say? Help a new friend out?" He smiled appealingly. I'll fulfill all my commitments.

Aw, crap! Alice grimaced as a Deer came up to her. Apparently I've lost my touch, since I wasn't as discreet as I hoped. Although, this guy is way too friendly. I really don't like him already.
She turned around adn gave one of sadistic smiles, the kind she gave before she was about to be extremely rude to someone in the absence of her unconcious manners. "Hello, sorry. I'm going to tell you here and now, I don't make friends nor do I have friends. I don't want friends. I'm very well capable of getting myself around this place. If I get lost, I can always get directions. I'm not like men, who can never seem to ask directions no matter how bad the situation is."
She put up a hand and gave a small wave. "You can leave now."

Kinoko shrugged indifferently, pointing in the direction they were about to take, "Actually, I was taking Matt here to buy a weapon, I'm afraid I must decline. No offense, I hope?" The back of her neck tingled and she grimaced. Cat. Not that she had anything against cats, personally, but some of them hated her guts just for having eight extra, fluffy tails than they did. Talk about discrimination, but hey, that's how the world works.
She caught the hate-filled glance sent her way and frowned, thinking it was directed at her. Like she could read someone's mind. Giving the female a cautious look, she gave Matthew a nudge in the shoulder, "Do you want to move on now?" she asked quietly.
Matthew looked up at her, "Do you want to?"
What kind of question was that? [glow=silver,2,300]...walking this road without you... remaking forgotten promises... to meet you at road's end... [/glow]

"Oh? No friends?" Roden laughed a bit. "That's pretty funny." He bowed to her again. "Then how about I make this more of a business matter?" He smiled slyly. "If you're willing to help me, I'll make it worth your while." He raised his hand to shake hers. "We don't even have to be friends, you can even call me scum the whole way. But if you help me I'll make sure you get full compensation." He looked back over his shoulder. "And the same applies to you fox, I know the finest weapon crafters in the market." He smiled again, and pointed a hand both ways to shake their hands. "What do you say? Do we have a deal?"

Grit got out of his personal car, and saw the waitress from the dinner and a young boy Deer with her talking to another cat demon and a Deer demon he thought, ah, this seems like a place where I can find people from many different groups, hmm but why does that Fox demon resemble the fox's leader? Grit then decided to find out so he walked up to them and said "hows your days been going this fine day?" he then bowed slightly and wondered why he held his hands out.

OOC: I was waiting for the line instinct to kick in here. It's pretty well established on Venom's Gate. Although, it does leave us with alot of "So-and-so needs to post now! Post dammit, post!" posts.
Alice frowned, anger practically seething in her features. "No, no deal! I get all of my jobs submitted on paper, from sources I know well. I'm a bounty hunter, not a help-for-hire. Idon't like surprises, and you're not even telling me how you'll 'make it worth my while'." She made quotation gestures as she said this. No, she's not PMSing. She could certainly convince you otherwise though with her apparent mood swings.
Turning away from Roden, and turning to Kinoko, she put her Cheshire Cat smile back on. "You have the faint scent of her about you, so tell Serena that Alice says 'hi' won't you?

./OOC;` Oh, pfftt... >> Deal with it. =.= Hrm, my post. =.=
Kinoko was mildly interested - barely - and already thinking about moving on so they could get home before sundown [she had something with being out after dark with Matthew] when the cat demon addressed her specifically. She was briefly caught off guard,
"Do I know this Serena you speak of?" she inquired, just as marshmallow-sweet as the other girl. Strange grin or no, she recognized a kindred spirit in the cat. Mood-swingy bounty hunteresses. Haha. [glow=silver,2,300]...walking this road without you... remaking forgotten promises... to meet you at road's end... [/glow]

Roden smiled. "A bounty hunter hmmm?" He laughed. "What if I could get you the whereabouts of one of the biggest pay outs in all the city." He looked at her with a stoic glare. "The Wraith." He felt the shiver down his spine just from saying that name. "You walk with me, talk with me, and I'll let you get his bounty, all yours, not a penny to me." He reached into his coat and pulled out a slip of paper and a pen. The paper was a typical bounty hunter assignment form, with the Wraith's information already filled out. "Just sign here, and all his bounty can be yours." He stared stoically.

OOC: Sorry Kusko, I'll leave that to someone else! XD
Alice put her hand over her eyes. Oh my god, I'm talking to a complete idiot. Giving an overdramatic sigh, while doing quotations in the air, "and I quote, 'from sources I know well.' Sorry to say, but that does NOT include you." Maybe now that guy will take a frickin' hint.
She walked past Roden, and in front of Kinoko. "I know that you know who I'm talking about. I wouldn't harm her for anything in the world. She's very fun to anger, especially since she just ends embarrassing herself. Now, if you would just mention me to her, I'll be given the enjoyment of imagining the look on her face." She let out a laugh, and oh my gosh, an actual non-pasted smile. The shock!

./OOC;` Just a mention kusko... Kinoko doesn't give a crap about people she doesn't know, so yea... >> You're gonna have to come up and talk. XDD Sorry. XD
Kinoko snorted audibly at the papers the deer demon proferred. Even if it wasn't offered to her, it was still ridiculous, "Actually, on second thought, I think I'd have more fun catching him myself. Big payoffs you say?" she let out a bark of laughter that startled a couple of birds from their perches nearby, ooh, scaryyy... "Hold up whie I catch my breath, that is way too funny."
Straightening as the cat demon insisted on her bringing tidings to Serena - what is it with this girl anyways? - she didn't bother to check her expression as her cheery mood evaporated, if it hadn't a while ago, "And I know that you know that I know that I don't give two of you to care whether your friends with Serena or not. Shove off, unless you want to join me for a bit of sparring practice," and her breeze familiars, Jazlyn, James, Lucia, and Artemis stirred in anticipation.
Matthew quirked his mouth thoughtfully, "And you said you wanted to get home before nightfall." [glow=silver,2,300]...walking this road without you... remaking forgotten promises... to meet you at road's end... [/glow]
