Niam lounged atop a short and squat looking house made of burnt red bricks and a sturdy tent tiled roof. The trails of her toga fluttered in a soothing breeze. Lovely place.
"Isn't this town so cute, July?" Niam closed her eyes in bliss as the peacefulness of all those wolves reached their spot. It seemed to radiate off every person and was almost as nice as eating chocolate.
The old man next to her frowned in disapproval. "Julius, m'lady," He reminded her firmly.
"Of course, honey, I'm sorry."
Julius sighed, radiating off annoyance. Apparently his queen did not pick up those waves, as she did not say anything else. Another subordinate to the other side of Niam, just a little boy, worryingly glanced at his Queen.
"Queen, how can we help them if you can't talk to them?" He asked, pulling on one of the folds of her dress gently.
Niam smiled down at her companion and laughed. "I do not know quite yet darling," She conceded after a moment. "There is a way, but then I would not be able to lead them back to my halls. Who knows where they'll go if I do that. We'll just have to wait until a way into their mind appears, won't we?"
"Uh huh!" He nodded emphatically while kicking his legs thoughtfully.
July glanced to his Queen. She was too young and naive--why back in his day, they had not even *thought* of using fire to cook with yet. When he joined the halls he had been given a name, which was a great honor, of course. However...
"M'lady, wouldn't it be easier just to put fire to.."
"What!" The boy and Niam sharply turned their heads. Niam, tears already forming (Julius mentally facepalmed), asked, "B-but then they'd be so sad! I can't have them come unless they want to July!"
"Julius. I am sorry, m'lady, of course yer right. I'm too old fashioned for this world, I suppose."
"It's alright July- oh, Julius," Niam stroked his hair, which he found increasingly irritating. "Alright, lads. I suppose we should go back now, right? Thanks for coming with me."
She held onto the boy's hand while leaping off the building. A carriage waited patiently in the street. A few demons passed through without even noticing.
Julius pondered. My Queen wants to have more ghosts in her halls. She is much too naive, thinking everyone can die without pain. I was ripped limb from limb by a bear! Why should everyone else be able to waltz to the Halls while he had to bribe his way into the pleasant side?
As he slid down the roof, small sparks followed him. He stepped into the coach trying not to look guilty as the roof behind him quickly burst into flame.
The fire danced from building to building, easily covering almost a forth of the town in minutes. Smoke streamed up into the sky as Niam gasped in disbelief.
"Oh, no!" She jumped out of the cart. "I have to--Julius, take the carriage and get back to the Halls, I'll try to stop this!"
"M'lady, don't!"
"Just go!"
Julius bit his lip before closing the door and ordering the horses to move. They leaped into the sky and disappeared without a noise. Soon the rest of the carriage followed.
