Did you want to know the history of Requiem? [Well, duh! That's why you're here.] Alright kiddies, grab a chair and prepare yourselves for a long and dull history lesson. Let's see...
All the events dated and recorded up to the present date were witnessed and chronicled by Fate's Timeless Diviner.
Once upon a time...[BAM!] The ice age was over, and the world was recuperating. During the time when [your] lifelines were being developed, the peninsula of Requiem [which wasn't called Requiem just yet] was home to six species: the birds, the cats, the deer, the foxes, the wolves, and the humans. The former five, though bearing the traits of their animal counterparts, also possessed abilities above and beyond the normal human scale. So different were these six tribes that they could not agree with anything [other than the fact they disagreed] and bloody civil war erupted for centuries. For hundreds of years, all one learns from the cradle is to hate. To hate the feathers of the flighted ones, the claws of the cold ones, the prongs of the hooved ones, the cunning of the thieves, the teeth of the silent ones, and sometimes, even the blades of their own people. Then came the day of the Council of Requiem's Heart. Weary of the bloodshed [Took them this long? About time...], the village leaders gathered to discuss a truce. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, and still an agreement had not been made. Their differences, though great, could have been put aside, but no, all they could manage was a cease-fire. Brilliant. Now, despite the truce, the two bounty-hunting clans, the cat and the fox, are at "professional differences", so they say, and are increasingly hostile to each other. The birds, at their homes in the mountains are, for some reason, contracting an obscure disease for an unknown reason. The deer are slowly disappearing in numbers and the wolves are as aloof as ever. And the humans? The civil warfare has scattered and killed them in large masses. They have long since forgotten about these occurances in history. In fact, most of them are oblivious to the presence of species other than their own and are content in their daily lives. Don't get me wrong, we do have technology, such as electricity and plumbing--thank the gods for indoor plumbing. There are skyscrapers - you might have to look for them even if they are tall toothpicks in the sky - but for those of you into those futuristic novels, no thank you [or should it be sorry?] we do not have those things called "airplanes". Extremely sorry to disappoint. |
